A gentle baby, one who takes her time
So I can watch the changes as she grows;
Whose face has always been so much like mine;
Whose mouth has learned now how to reach her toes.
A quiet baby, one who chats and burbles,
Purses lips, and makes sounds with her tongue;
Whose cries are not much louder than her gurgles;
Who laughs at laughing faces just for fun.
A chubby baby, with legs and arms well-covered
And slender hands and feet at each limb's end;
With milk and sleep and cuddles she is showered;
She grows without a chart, no means or trends.
My second child, my love without compare:
For all she is, she is; that's all we care.
So I can watch the changes as she grows;
Whose face has always been so much like mine;
Whose mouth has learned now how to reach her toes.
A quiet baby, one who chats and burbles,
Purses lips, and makes sounds with her tongue;
Whose cries are not much louder than her gurgles;
Who laughs at laughing faces just for fun.
A chubby baby, with legs and arms well-covered
And slender hands and feet at each limb's end;
With milk and sleep and cuddles she is showered;
She grows without a chart, no means or trends.
My second child, my love without compare:
For all she is, she is; that's all we care.
